Financial Aid FAQs

What is Financial Aid? Financial aid is based solely on a family’s financial need. Students must have a 2.0 GPA.

When do I apply? The SSS (School and Student Service) Parents' Financial Statement must be completed and submitted to SSS with the required fee no later than January 17. If you wait until after your daughter is accepted, you will be too late.

Why so early? It takes five to six weeks for SSS to process and send us your report.

Where do I get this form? The quickest and easiest way is to apply online through www.nais.org. Have your credit card and latest tax return by your side. You can also request SSS forms from the Alverno Registrar’s Office (ext 236).

What happens if I file late? Financial aid deadlines are very important. If the Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee does not have your information when it meets in early March, you cannot be considered. There are rarely any funds left after the first round of financial aid awards is made.

How much is the average award? Grants usually range from $1,000 to $2,000.

What is this SSS company? Do they supply the money? School and Student Service analyzes your Parents' Financial Statement and sends us a report estimating how much you can afford for tuition. All financial aid funds come from Alverno—SSS is only a processor of financial information.

Can I get a copy of the SSS report? Yes. You can request a copy be sent to you as well as to Alverno.

Families must demonstrate need through the SSS (School and Student Service) Parents' Financial Statement. No financial aid can be given to families who have not completed this process.

  • SSS prepares a financial report for participating schools. It does not supply funds.
  • Financial aid is awarded at the time of admissions notification. It is vital that families submit their SSS forms on time. If we do not have your completed financial information when the Financial Aid Committee meets, you cannot be considered for financial aid.
  • Families must reapply for financial aid each year. If you daughter has a GPA above 3.0, she is encouraged to apply for a scholarship!
Renewing Your Financial Aid

We want to renew your financial aid. Here’s what you have to do in order for that to happen:

  • Financial aid is renewable, but families must reapply every year through the SSS (School and Student Service) Parents' Financial Statement. The application must be filed no later than January 17 in order to be received on time.
  • Families must demonstrate continued need.
  • Both parent and student service hours must be completed and turned in by the May 1 deadline. There will be no extensions.
  • The student must have a minimum GPA of 2.0. and a clear disciplinary record
