Softball

The Alverno Jaguar Softball Team has earned itself a very high reputation amongst its competitors both in league games and division VI playoff games for the past 18 years. This should be attributed to the spirit of the school, the great support of parents, the young ladies who have played on the team and their coaches.

Listed below is a summary of the softball team’s league standings for the past 16 years in Horizon League play.

1991 – 2nd

1992 – 1st

1993 – 1st

1994 – 1st

1995 – 3rd

1996 – Tie for 1st

1997 – 2nd

1998 – 2nd

1999 – 2nd

Over the last four years of Division VI Playoffs, the Alverno Jaguars softball teams have had great success! The team record in Division VI playoffs for the past five years is 18 wins and four losses – a record that the majority of the schools in any division would love to have.

2003 – 2nd in CIF Final Round

2004 – CIF Champions

2005 – Semi-Finals (Final 4)

2006 – Semi-Finals (Final 4)

2007 – Semi-Finals (Final 4)

None of this success is achieved without the hard work and dedication of the team members. Many weeks of practice (usually five days per week), and up to 20 games each season makes for a tough schedule. All this comes on top of a full schedule of classes, other school activities, homework and family life.

In Memory of Frank Russo (2009)

Frank Russo came to Alverno to coach softball in 1991. His experiences before that included coaching a softball team that traveled to for competitions. His knowledge and enthusiasm for the game was an asset in building a team during his first year at Alverno. In 1996, he was promoted to Athletic Director and has since worked hard to offer a great program for all sports at the school.
